Tony 'Whirlwind' Weed started his season with a trip to Galashiels in the Scottish borders for the Galashiels Sprint Race. The 750m swim saw Weed lead out with a 9 second lead over North East rival Paul Jones of One Life Racing.
The 20 km bike course was a mixed bag, starting with a leg busting climb followed by a long fast descent where Weed pressed ahead into the lead and worked hard on the flat roads along the side of the river followed by another climb and descent back to T2. Behind him Stuart Robinson had moved up into second place, 25 seconds adrift.
Onto the run and Weed expected to lose time after a forced 8-week lay off with a calf injury, and Robinson overtook Weed to win the race. Weed dropped back to 5th but was pleased with the race having only 3 weeks running in his legs.
